Wedding – The Best Man’s Duties

[ad_1]

One of the most important jobs of the groom is to choose someone to be Best Man at his wedding. Usually this is a best friend, brother, cousin, uncle, or father; however it is his choice and should be made carefully. The Best Man’s duties are not to be taken lightly. Many things depend on him to make the wedding go smoothly without mistakes that will embarrass anyone of the wedding party. Sometimes, when a person accepts this job they do not know what it entails and the groom should carefully explain his duties and make sure the person chosen is willing and able to complete the task. If the person chosen cannot, at the last minute, be at the wedding then the groom should review the Best Man’s duties and be sure that the essential duties are explained to the replacement.

His duties include:

* Sends a wedding gift to the bridal couple

* Attends the wedding rehearsal and identifies the needs of the bride’s parents for the ceremony and reception sites on the day of the wedding then arranges to have the manpower available to assist where needed.

* Organizes the bachelor party

* Assists with the groom’s dressing on the wedding day

* Helps the bride’s mother with last minute chores

* Drives the groom to the church

* Has possession of the wedding ring, which is handed to the groom at the appropriate moment

* Sees that the groom has the wedding ring and marriage license in his possession at the appropriate times

* Stands to the right of the groom during the ceremony

* Pays the minister’s fee, provided by the groom, either before or after the ceremony

* Signs the wedding license

* Usually drives the bridesmaids and maid of honor to the reception if it is held at a different location

* If there is a receiving line, he stands at the beginning of the receiving and serves to make formal introductions of the newlyweds and parents of the bride and groom to guests

* Sits to the right of the bride at the reception and offers the first toast to the bridal couple

* Helps with honeymoon reservations and arranges for wine and flowers at the hotel room

* Takes care of placing the bride and groom’s luggage in their departure car

* Takes the groom’s departure clothes to the reception

* Arranges for a car or limousine for the departing wedding couple which is paid for by the groom

* Assumes the role of M.C (Master of Ceremonies)and is responsible for introducing each wedding speaker

* Takes the groom’s wedding clothes from the reception and returns them to the rental store (or the groom’s home, if not rented)

Although many serving in the capacity of Best Man see only the minimalistic part they play in the wedding, in actuality they are a key player in ensuring the wedding day runs smoothly and that all needs have been met before, during, and after the big event. It’s a big responsibility and, therefore, needs to be carried out by a big man who will follow-through.
