The biggest highlight in getting married for a couple is the wedding reception. The reception is the big introduction of the newly-married Mr and Mrs. Today there are many ways where a couple can be celebrated, depending on their wedding reception style. Read on to see some of the basic wedding reception styles that are favoured by couples today.
Let’s start at the beginning of day. Some couples opt for a breakfast or a brunch reception which can take place in the midmorning. Normally entrees such as breads, spreads, fruit as well as pastries. How about having separate stations for waffles or omelets? For some brunches, couples even serve sandwiches and gourmet salads. Complemented with juices and coffee and tea, this will be a nice homely reception for all your friends and families.
The day moves on to late morning or early afternoon, and this is the perfect time for a punch and cake sort of reception. This rather personal and straightforward reception will do well for small groups of people at home, or at a small intimate restaurant. As the name suggests, cake and punch are served, but don’t let this limit your menu. Many varieties of cakes can be served as well complemented with a variation of fruit punches. Select those that go with your colour theme for an overall stunning effect.
Noon or late afternoon is a good time for a luncheon. Your menu could be akin to that of a light dinner. You could start the luncheon with some cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Generally for a luncheon less or no alcohol is served.
If you’re having a later afternoon reception, it could also be a tea wedding reception. As the name suggests, you can serve tea but again don’t limit yourself. All kinds of beverages can be served with sweet offerings such as pastries, scones, cakes, as well as canapes, crudites and finger sandwiches.
The other style is the cocktail party, which is gaining popularity with couples. The cocktail reception held in the late afternoon or evening generally has a full bar (or two if you wish). Or you could serve just one or two specialty drinks. Just make sure that there are other non-alcoholic options as well. To complement this, serve hors d’oeuvres and finger food — something that guests can eat while standing about. Another option is to have small pretzels, nuts and other salty snacks handy.
The most popular choice for a wedding reception is the wedding dinner. Held in the evening, the dinner will be a full course meal. You could opt for courses or a buffet spread depending on your theme and budget. Dinners normally begin with a cocktail hour, and ends with drinks from the bar.
