As the first step, look for a place with enough space. If you anticipate 100 guests, look for a venue that can hold 200. You would be covered in the event that you underestimated. Book a reception hall that has catering facilities as well. You would then have the convenience of serving the food from the hall instead of transporting it from afar. Many reception sites have live band or stand by DJs. These are the ones you should consider. Having all services under one umbrella reduces stress and cost.

Proximity is of great importance in wedding reception planning. Your guests should not move too far from the wedding ceremony grounds to attend the reception. A few meters away is good but something of a mile and over is undesirable. Look for space behind, adjacant or within the vicinity in which you are holding your wedding.

Many reception sites are bare rooms. You will have to get a decorator do the floral arrangement or you may have to do it yourself. If you would manage it yourself, you can go for silk flowers which are easy to manage. You can decorate the entrance with balloons.
