Your Dream Wedding …
Before you start anything, it's a good idea to sit down as a couple, talk about what each of you envision for your wedding, consider the themes, colors, level of formality, traditions that are important to each of you. You can look at blogs, magazines, and other wedding sources to help you determine what you want. Once you have your overall vision you can communicate it to family and vendors and so they can help plan the wedding of your dreams.

Guest List
The next thing you need to know is rough how many people you want at your wedding. If you can not come up with an exact guest list at this point, that's okay, but try to keep it as accurate as possible. It's a good idea at this point to ask family members, especially your in laws and parents, who they would like to invite to the wedding, just to be sure you have not left anyone out. Keep it high level for now, you can finalize the detailed guest list later on and even use wedding websites to allow your guests to register their contact details and RSVP online.

Budget
Now that you know how many people and what you want, you can come up with a realistic budget. Be realistic, there is no point in underestimating your budget now only to have surprises later on. Start with the largest expenses first-catering, venue, honeymoon and brides dress. There are many budget calculators online to help you out – try out a few to give you a range of what is realistic to expect.

Date and Location
The date a location is easier to decide once you're done with the first 3 steps. You need to pick a location that can incorporated your theme and the things important to you, it has to be an adequate size for your number of guests, and it should fit in your budget. Other things you may want to consider are the season and time of day. How do these fit in with your theme – do you want to spread out the ceremony and reception or keep them close together. Will you be having them at the same venue or different venues.

So there you go, the first four things that should be on your wedding planning checklist now that you know where, when and who you can start thinking about the "what" and by this we mean all the other details – like getting that that perfect dress!
