Wedding trends have chopped and changed over the years, with choices for gifts now veering away from more 'traditional' items such as kettles and toasters and towards more creative ideas.
As gifts were traditionally given to the bride and groom to help them set up and settle in to their new matrimonial home, appliances and accessories were the most obvious and practical choice. Nowadays, with many couples already living together, guests are increasingly thinking outside the box and giving more memorable, individual keepsakes. Here are a few of our faves we have come across recently to hopefully get your creative juices going ….
The alternative wedding album … Hold back on giving the gift on the actual day; get hold of a Polaroid camera and get snap happy through the special day capturing all those gorgeous spontaneous moments that will not be by the professional photographer! Stick them in a beautiful rice paper scrapbook and have it waiting for when the newlyweds are back from their honeymoon … a great way to relive their wedding in a personalized way.
The 'Everlasting Postcard' … Bear with us – as a mantelpiece keepsup, Links of London have designed a silver-plated postcard (including a 'stamp' in the top right-hand corner!) Which you can have engraved in your own handwriting with a personalized message. As a tip, you could put the address of the church where your loved ones are getting married as this will never change!
Treat for the honeymoon … Weddings, although fun, can be a stressful time for the bride and groom so why not give them a helping hand to unwind and find out details of where they will be staying on their honeymoon by booking them in for a spa day – they'll definitely appreciate having the deluxe treatment without having to do a thing!
Explosive surprise … Why not give them a memorable gift on the day itself – fireworks are becoming increasingly popular as the perfect way to celebrate in style and create really special memories – not just for the happy couple but the guests too! This is great as a joint present which means it will not break the bank either – 1st Galaxy fireworks offer different sized packages, some with music and also allows you to choose colors and designs to fit in with the theme of the wedding.
Traveling memories … Online retailer Not on the high street have a really unique idea – bespoke framed heart-shaped maps of destinations that are held dear by the bride and groom. Choose anywhere in the world, such as where they first met, past memorable holidays or wherever where they will be going on honeymoon …
These are just some of our faves but we hope it will inspire you to get creative, without pulling on the purse (or wallet) strings too much – the most important thing is it means something to both you and the happy couple.
