Leavenworth, Washington is a Bavarian styled village of 2,500 residents in the central part of the state. It lies in the Wenatchee River Valley on the drier eastern side of the Cascade Mountains. It is at an elevation of about 1,200 feet with nearby mountains rising to over 8,000 feet. With its scenic setting, abundant recreation, and popular festivals and events throughout the year, Leavenworth is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the state.

Businesses in Leavenworth area include: restaurants, shops, hotels, bed and breakfasts, fruit growers, fruit packing, wineries, golf courses, ski resorts, grocery stores, and other service companies. There is a large Safeway on Highway 2 in Leavenworth that employs more than fifty people.

Available jobs in the city may include: food servers, bussers, bartenders, housekeepers, cooks, cashiers, musicians, and hotel guest services. Seasonal work may also be available at fruit picking and packing businesses, local ski areas, and river rafting and inter-tubing businesses. Leavenworth is also a popular area for artists and photographers.

Leavenworth is also within commuting distance of the city of Wenatchee, which is 22 miles to the east. Wenatchee is a larger city of about 30,000 resident, and the county seat of Chelan County. Leavenworth and other communities in the Wenatchee River Valley are part of the Wenatchee-East Wenatchee Metropolitan Statistical Area, which has a total population of about 110,000 residents.

Government jobs with Chelan County, Grant County, public utilities, local cities, Chelan County, and community school districts may be available. Leavenworth is also an attractive place to work from home. High speed Internet is available in the city, allowing people to work remotely by computer.

Summer is a particularly busy season in Leavenworth, creating increased demand for work. Highway 2 on summer weekends can become very backed up with traffic. There are a variety of summer music festivals and summer theater. Also, the area is very popular for camping and recreational activities such as inter-tubing, river rafting, kayaking, hiking, biking, fishing, and golfing. Wine tasting is popular and there are several excellent wedding venues in the Leavenworth areas. Fall is a busy season for fruit picking and packing.

In the winter, Leavenworth joins ski bums seeking seasonal work. There are three ski areas within an hour of the city. Stevens Pass Ski Area is the largest. It is thirty-five miles northwest on Highway 2. Mission Ridge Ski and Snowboard Resort, which is located near Wenatchee is a similar distance from the city. In town, there is the Leavenworth Ski Hill, which is operated by a non-profit, offers affordable skiing just north of the city with two rope tow, a tubing hill, a ski jumping hill, and twenty-six kilometers of Nordic trails. Nordic skiing is also available at Stevens Pass.
