A Wedding is supposed to be made in heaven. It is to be the summation of a couple of love, friendship and trust. It is supposed to be a wonderful and beautiful ceremony – at whatever cost! Or Not! On average a wedding in the United States today cost anywhere from $ 20,000 to $ 40,000. About 10% of the total cost goes to flower arrangements which translate to $ 2,000 – $ 4,000. Saving money on your wedding flowers is do-able without sacrificing your dream wedding.
Think Small, Save Big
An average wedding entourage needs 5 bouquets, 15 boutonnieres and 12 corsages. Flower baskets and head pieces are optional for the flower girls and other attendants. Save on flowers by minimizing the numbers of your entourage. Save on catering too by limiting the number of guests. This way you hit two birds with one stone as you will also less the number of flowers on the aisles as you limit your guests. Saving money on your wedding flowers need not be impossible to do. In case your hands are tied and can not possibly less the number of entourage and guests without being a cast out, by all means get them all. Save money by having smaller bouquets and centerpieces instead.
Open for Options
Saving money on your wedding flowers could have been done by choosing flowers in bloom or in season. Do not ask for gerbera daisies when your wedding is set on the dead of winter! Ask your florist what flowers are in season on your wedding day. You can also opt to use silk or dried flowers as they are quite cheap and are recyclable. For the reception, why not choose a venue teeming with fresh plants and flowers? You can save up a lot too if you opt to rent potted plants and flowers for the church and reception decorations.
Be a DIY
And why not? If you have an artistic flair or anyone of your kin or friends do, you can arrange your own arrangement. For simplicity, just gather a bunch of in season flowers and tie them with ribbons and twine. For the reception, be creative and consider other materials and arrangement as centerpieces. Set up votive candles in the middle and scatter petals around them. Get a clear bowl and fill it up with your favorite candies and treats. There are 101 ideas for real creative and cheap wedding centerpieces.
Other Tips
Choose a less complicated flower even if it's in season because "complicated" flowers like orchids, peonies, gardenias, lilies, hydrangea and magnolias are a bit expensive. You may want to stick to the less expensive but none-the-less beautiful roses, daisies, chrysanthemums, daffodils, lavender and the likes. So you like the "complicated" orchids and peonies for your wedding bouquet. Fine! Then just choose the less expensive flowers for the rest of the entourage.
One more tip! Have your wedding right after Christmas or Easter if you are Christian, and right after Rosh Hashanah or Passover if you are Jewish. The church or synagogue would be all decked up for the occasions. There'll be no need for you to decorate the church or the synagogue!
