Music plays a vital role in creating the right ambiance and atmosphere during your celebrations, from the formality of the ceremony, to the fun of the evening disco, you will need to choose music for each and every element.

A traditional, religious wedding service will normally dictate a choice of traditional hymns. Choose popular hymns that your guests will know otherwise your uplifting ceremony songs could be reduced to inaudible mumblings because your guests do not know the tune! Any hymns you do choose may from a list given to your by the officiant and should be considered as tried and tested songs.

Some religious services will allow you to play or sing modern songs if you prefer. Make sure you talk about ceremony music with your officiant to find out what is acceptable and what is not. If you require musical accompaniment find out what the organist is capable of playing too or if you can have a choir, harpist or soloist.

Civil wedding ceremonies tend to be more relaxed when it comes to choosing wedding songs. Many events will already have a collection of popular songs but you are welcome to provide your own. Remember though that you must have any religious references in music played at a civil ceremony.

For your ceremony be religious or civil you will need to choose wedding songs for the processional, recessional, during the service (religious), and signing the register. For a civil service you may also want to have some quiet background music playing while your guests are listed and you prepare yourself!

At your wedding reception you will need to choose wedding songs for the cocktail hour, wedding breakfast, cake cutting, first dance and your evening party. Background music which is not too loud or upbeat is a good choice for your cocktail party and wedding breakfast as it allows your guests to chat comfortably among them without having to shout to make themselves hear.

Your evening entertainment should be lively enough to get everyone up and dancing – and to keep them there! Choose some classic disco and pop tracks as well as few tracks that are personal favorites of yours, chances some of your guests will like them too. Your first dance song should be something personal to you both. Most couples choose a song that has some significance to their relationships that far, while others will choose a classic love song.
