[ad_1]

New York City is a city where you can have a lot of fun. But does fun have to be pricey? Not really! Here are the 10 best things you can do while on a budget in New York City.

Statue of Liberty

You usually visit this star New York City attraction through a ferry – which costs a lot of money for a family of 4-5. But why pay for something when you can do it for free?

A free ferry runs between downtown Manhattan and Staten Island. And it passes by the Statue of Liberty on its way! Take this ferry, and enjoy viewing the Statue of Liberty – the view is as good as any of the paid options!

Brooklyn Bridge

This is another New York City landmark that is completely free! When you walk on the bridge, you can see the Brooklyn Bridge up close – and would also get awesome views of downtown Manhattan and the South Street Seaport.

Shakespeare in the Park – Free Plays

Free performances in the Central Park – can it get any better than this? These plays run during the summer. Great entertainment that does not cost you a penny!

Governor's Island

This is a hidden gem! A nice and free option to spend a summer day is Governor's Island. Free ferries run between downtown Manhattan and Governor's Island during the summer. The island also hosts many concerts – for free. It is a great place to have a day picnic.

Street Performers

Want to see some really talented people delivering some heart-stopping performances? You need to check out the street performers of NYC. They are present at all touristy places – Times Square, Central Park, Union Square, Battery Park, etc.

Central Park

Another great option that is completely free round the year. It has many lakes, baseball grounds, green spaces, and more. Kids would love it too.

The New York Public Library

New York Public Library's building in Bryant Park contains 75 miles of shelves containing books on humanities and social sciences. It has free tours available every day that you can use to explore the library and its architecture.

Macy's Store

Macy's largest store is located at Herald Square (33rd Street / Broadway in Manhattan) – it is ten floors of shopping heaven! It is a very popular shopping destination. It has some great Holiday window displays as well.

Apple Store

This store is quickly becoming a major tourist attraction – especially for Apple and Mac fans! It stocks the latest Apple products, and is also very good architecturally. It is located right outside the Central Park on 5th Avenue.

Hop On Hop Off Bus Tour

When on a budget, the hop-on hop-off guided bus tour can be your best friend. You get to see all the important attractions in New York City, and everything would be explained by an experienced guide. You would also save a ton on local traveling by taxi!
