Vintage wedding rings are becoming more and more fashionable as many of us are looking for something a little special for our wedding rings.
Any ring of fifty years or more can be classified as vintage. A lot of the vintage rings you will find on the market today are from three specific eras. These three most popular periods are the Art Deco, Edwardian and Victorian.
Art Deco Vintage Rings
The Art Deco style is quiet distinct. This was an era of change, it started in Paris in the nineteen twenties, but continued to grow in the United States through the nineteen thirties. The style still has a very contemporary feel and inspires many of today's designers.
Edwardian Vintage Rings
The Edwardian era is one of the shooter eras, reflecting only a couple of decades. Much of the style and craftsmanship is similar to the Victorian era, but the materials are different. During the Edwardian period there is an increase in the use of rose diamonds and also sapphires. This change in materials means that there is a significant difference between the Edwardian and Victorian rings.
Victorian Vintage Rings
This was a hugely long era, spanning from eighteen thirty five until nineteen hundred. The rings from this era were usually made from rose or yellow gold and would be adorned with white diamonds. The rings were intricate and the craftsmanship of this era is quite beautiful. Unfortunately, these vintage wedding rings are quite hard to find and when you do come across one, they are often very expensive.
The important thing to remember when looking for a vintage ring is to give yourself plenty of time as you may find the perfect ring on your first visit to a vintage jeweler or you may find that after many hours of searching your perfect ring has eluded you.
There is always another option. If you know the style of ring you want, then you can look at getting a modern ring which has a vintage feel, or you could commission a bespoke ring to be made in your chosen style.
Remember that choosing your wedding ring should be fun, and it can be great fun searching out the perfect vintage wedding rings.
