When planning your special day, one of the things you have to decide is who will stand up with you during your vows. Your closest family members or friends are usually asked to be part of your wedding party. But what can they do before and after the ceremony to help things go well?
There are not any set tasks for the bride and groom's attendants to perform. But there are things things that can do to help the happy couple's have a special and memorable wedding day.
The Bride's Attendants
Maid of Honor
This honor is usually given to the bride's closest friend or family member. She is the one who has known the bride through the ups and downs of life. Here are some of the things Your Maid of Honor can do to help you prepare for your special day.
1. Help address and mail the invitations. Even a small wedding can have many invitations and helping to organize the guest list, prepare the invitations for mailing and addressing them and will go a long way to make things easier.
2. Help the Bridesmaids get to their dress fittings and be sure they are at the wedding on time and dressed properly.
3. Help the bride get ready for the ceremony and keep the best man informed of any problems the bride or bridal party might be having.
4. Holds the bride's bouquet during the ceremony and helps arrange the bride's veil and train after the ceremony.
5. She stands in the receiving line and sits at the brides table. If the bride changes clothing before leaving for the honeymoon, the Maid of Honor should help her.
Bridesmaids
If your ceremony is big enough, you will probably have Bridesmaids along with a Maid of Honor. While they can help the Maid of Honor out as well, here are some other things they can do to make the day run smoother.
1. Running wedding related errands for the bride, address envelopes, and help out before the ceremony.
2. Serving the guests the wedding cake when it is cut.
The Groom's Attendants
Best Man
As with the bride, the Best Man should be the groom's best friend. There are not any set jobs for the Best Man to do, but there are things he can do to help out.
1. He arranges the stag party and makes sure the groom makes it home afterwards.
2. The Best Man can help the groom make decisions for the ceremony, help select the ushers and instruct them in their takes and he picks up the groom's tux before the ceremony.
3. He helps the groom get ready and makes sure the rest of the groomsmen are also ready to go.
4. He escorts the Maid of Honor down the aisle.
5. He holds the rings and stands on the groom's side ready to hand the rings over at the correct moment.
6. He can help by making sure the rental envelopes are collected and returned on time and he can also be in charge of making sure the hire help and minister are given their payment envelopes.
Groomsmen
The Groomsmen have the responsibility of making sure the guests are listed on the proper side, and where they should be. They escort the bride and groom's parents to their seats and basically make sure the guests know where they should be during the ceremony.
1. They walk down the aisle with the Bridesmaids and make sure they are where they should be during the ceremony.
2. They stand on the groom's side, behind the Best Man. After the ceremony, they escort the Bridesmaids down the aisle and out of the church.
3. The Groomsmen can also help by running errands for the groom, and helping the best man make sure everything runs smoothly.
4. The Groomsmen should make sure no one plays a practical joke on the happy couple.
While these are not set in stone tasks, they are some of the things each member of the wedding party can do to make the bride and groom's wedding day special and hassle free.
