Exciting things are happening in the world of wedding invitations this year. Especially significant are color, style and embellishments. Let's take a look at some of the more talked about trends for 2009.
Color: I always enjoy looking at how designers are experimenting with color combinations and this year began with the stunning watermelon pink invitations featured in the movie Bride Wars. Another color that is popular this year is flame orange with a shimmery effect – look for paper that catches the light. Following in the lighter trends are canary yellow and light, spring green to fill out the pastels. Black and cream is also continuing in its popularity and the dark horse color this year looks like it will be eggplant with gold lettering. As usual, cream, ivory and white are the perennial choices that always look gorgeous. So with all these wonderful varieties to pick from, you can really find the color that is right for your wedding invitation.
Style: There is a positive plethora of invitation styles to choose from. Pocket Folders are continuing to rise in popularity and many designers are experimenting with different types of folders from the more classic. side double-fold over, to pockets that fold from the top or fold out from the middle. The layered invitation is also gaining in popularity because here you can truly experiment with color. You can try the watermelon pinks and flame oranges as the back card and then layer with white or cream printed in a contrasting color ink that really "pops" out the card. You can also experiment with a hint of color in the "frame" style or make a more bold statement in the "bordered style".
Embellishments: Lastly. and I think most fun, are the sheer number of embellishments you can add to your invitation. Here, your creativity can really shine. First, is the ribbon. You can use double-sided satin, organza, or any of the novelty ribbons found in craft stores. Be sure to try a number of different colors against your invitation to see which ones best match your wedding colors and your card. You can then use your ribbon as the anchor for different attachments. For example, you can "sash" your invitation card around the middle and then glue on a dried rose flower or a daisy for the most popular look. You can also add a crystal or glass gem stone in a color that compliments your ribbon or back card color for a sophisticated and elegant look. Small shells or starfish are also fun for a destination wedding as are sterling silver charms or crosses for a more personal statement.
Now is the time to think outside the traditional for that something unique that really represents you as a couple. And do not forget to consider "DIY" or Do It Yourself printable wedding invitation kits to express your creativity and cut costs!
